Rush Limbaugh says John Boehner's slap at Ted Cruz as "Lucifer in the flesh" is the "best endorsement" the Texas senator could hope for as he attempts to kick-start his stalled campaign for the GOP presidential nomination.
"Ted Cruz just got the best endorsement he could ever get. He could not have gotten a better endorsement than he got out of John Boehner," the conservative talk-show host said on his
syndicated radio show on Thursday.
Boehner, who's had a long running feud with Cruz, went ballistic when asked about him during a chat with government and history students at Stanford University.
"[Cruz is] Lucifer in the flesh," Boehner declared, according to
The Stanford Daily newspaper.
"I have Democrat friends and Republican friends. I get along with almost everyone, but I have never worked with a more miserable son of a b---- in my life."
Boehner added he would not vote for Cruz in the unlikely event the Texas senator is able to reverse the course of his fading campaign and beat Donald Trump to the nomination.
"Can you imagine, here's John Boehner out there calling Ted Cruz 'Lucifer,' the biggest SOB he ever had to work with?" Limbaugh told his radio audience.
"Here's John Boehner, the former speaker of the House, who had to work with [Democratic House Minority Leader] Nancy Pelosi and [Democratic Senate Minority Leader] Harry Reid and [President] Barack Obama, and he says that Ted Cruz was the worst he ever had to work with?
"Isn't that a little bizarre? Especially since they both claim, both Boehner and Cruz, to be conservatives.
"Cruz can run around and say, 'If anybody doubts that I am anti-establishment now, if anybody has any question over who the real outsider in this campaign is, just take a look at what Boehner said.'"
Cruz has already
responded to Boehner's attack, saying it shows "something that is wrong with Washington." He added he'd never worked with Boehner and rarely spoke with him.
Boehner has fired verbal missiles at Cruz in the past, last year labeling him a "jackass" for his hand in helping shut down the government in 2013 and his ongoing combat with fellow Republicans in the Senate.
