The first family's elaborate lifestyle may come with a hefty price tag for taxpayers — up to hundreds of millions of dollars over the course of President Donald Trump's four-year term, The Washington Post reported.

The president's "winter White House" at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Fla., his Bedminister, N.J., Trump golf course that will serve as a sort of northern White House for as many as 10 weekends a year, Trump Tower in New York City, where first lady Melania Trump and the couple's 10-year-old son Barron are currently living, and the travels of Trump's sons Eric and Donald Jr. – accompanied by their Secret Service details – all present financial and logistical concerns, the newspaper reported.

"It's a logistical nightmare," Jonathan Wackrow, a 14-year Secret Service employee who served in President Barack Obama's detail, told the Post, adding agents are "at severe risk of burnout, and the very last thing you want is to have your agents burned out."

Using partial figures that have "dribbled out" and government documents, the Post breaks down some expenses that have piled up since Inauguration Day last month, including:

  • Trump's three Mar-a-Lago trips since the inauguration, figured to cost about $10 million, based on figures used in an October government report analyzing White House travel.
  • Local traffic control and security expenses in Palm Beach County whenever Trump comes to his resort are estimated to have racked up tens of thousands of dollars – for which officials plan to ask to be reimbursed, according to the Post.
  • New York City is paying $500,000 a day to guard Trump Tower, according to police officials' estimates, an amount that could reach $183 million a year.
  • Secret Service and U.S. embassy staffers shelled out nearly $100,000 in hotel-room bills to support Eric Trump's trip to promote a Trump-brand condo tower in Uruguay, according to the Post.

Conservative watchdog Judicial Watch estimated Obama-related travel expenses totaled nearly $97 million over eight years, "but based on the first four weeks, Trump's presidency appears on track to cost hundreds of millions of dollars more," the Post reported.

A Secret Service spokesman said the agency is equipped to handle the demands of a Trump presidency.

"Every administration presents unique challenges to which the Secret Service has effectively adapted," the agency told the Post in a statement. "Regardless of location . . . the Secret Service is confident in our security plan."

But Democratic Rep. Lois Frankel, who represents Palm Beach, groused Mar-a-Lago is a poor choice for a president's long-term home.

"Mar-a-Lago is no Camp David," Frankel told the Post. "It's not set up with the intention or the forethought of keeping the president safe."
