A lawyer for the family of the Charlotte man shot and killed by police this week said Thursday they're undecided about having the public view police videos that show the fatal incident.

Justin Bamberg said during a press briefing that the family will meet with police later Thursday to watch dash-cam and body camera footage of the Tuesday night incident involving the Charlotte police and Keith Lamont Scott.

Police said Scott had a gun and refused several orders to drop it.

"You have to keep the mind with regard to videos, we have seen videos leaked online of individuals losing their lives before the family has the opportunity to sometimes even find out. That is traumatic," Bamberg said.

"We have become desensitized as a society to the killing of citizens, and these videos contribute to that. So we have to be mindful of the feelings of the loved ones, of the people who have died, before we rally to say, 'make the video public.'

"Today, we'll have the opportunity to view and see what is on the video and then we'll trace the rest later."

Bamberg also noted that Scott did not own a firearm. He was unsure whether Scott, who family members and friends said was holding a book when he was shot, had a license to onward carry a gun.

Violent riots erupted in Charlotte Tuesday and Wednesday night because of the incident.

Bamberg and two other attorneys for the family were present at the news conference. Members of the family were expected to be there as well but ultimately decided not to.

"Our goal is to get down to the truth and make sure the facts come out and expand on the conversation," Bamberg said. "Don't release some information. Don't play hide the ball. If you're going to release what happened, release everything. So there's a lot of different factors to this."
