LaVar Ball denied being in a feud with President Donald Trump, but repeatedly refused on CNN to offer a "thank you" to him for his role in the release of his son and two other UCLA basketball players accused of shoplifting in China.

"Why would I be in war with a guy — the most powerful man in the world?" Ball said when asked about the situation by CNN's Chris Cuomo.

"Did he help the boys get out? I don't know. If I was going to thank somebody, I'd probably thank President Xi (Jinping)," Ball said.

"If you help, you shouldn't have to say anything," he said. "Let him do his political affairs and let me handle my son and let's just stay in our lane."

When Cuomo conceded that might be correct, but why not in any case thank the president for helping out, as his son and the two other UCLA players did, Ball said, "I'm not the other guys" and refused to say thank you to Trump.

Ball also denied he had criticized the president, instead saying he was merely offering his view.

When asked by ESPN over the weekend about Trump's role in getting the boys released, Ball answered, "Who? What was he over there for? Don't tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out."

Following that remark on ESPN, Trump sent out two tweets in response on Sunday.

Ball concluded the CNN interview by offering the president holiday wishes.

"Tell Donald Trump to have a great Thanksgiving," he said.
