Another twist to the Las Vegas shooting investigation was revealed Monday, with law enforcement confirming that a police officer fired a round in the hotel suite where the attack originated.

The Las Vegas Review Journal spoke with Clark County Sheriff Joe Lombardo, who said a member of the Metropolitan Police Department accidentally discharged his weapon after he and other officers stormed the killer's room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel the night of Oct. 1.

The accidental discharge did not occur in the same room from where police said Stephen Paddock fired on a country concert, killing 58 people and wounding more than 500.

"It happened and we're investigating it, just like we do with any officer-involved use of force," Lombardo told the Review Journal.

A group of officers who stormed the hotel room said they found Paddock dead of what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Authorities have not released many details about the shooting since their last press conference more than two weeks ago. Lombardo did, however, tell the Review Journal there were no cameras at the Mandalay Bay that faced the gunman's suite.

In the days following the massacre, Lombardo said there was evidence that suggested Paddock was planning to escape after his attack.

There have been several questions regarding the shooting's timeline and about a security guard who said Paddock fired at him through the hotel suite's door.
