Kudlow: US Telecoms Want Quick Action on Huawei Exemptions

By    |   Tuesday, 23 July 2019 10:46 AM

Representatives from top tech companies meeting at the White House on Monday said they want the Trump administration to move quickly on their applications for exemptions to Huawei's blacklisting, White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Tuesday.

"Their only real ask was that as we’ve opened up the non-national security aspects of selling equipment to Huawei, that we can speed it up a little bit, that the Commerce Department will process applications so they can speed things up,” Kudlow said on Fox News' "Fox and Friends."

He said the executives were "very positive and supportive" of the president's program for restrictions for Huawei, the telecommunications company with strong ties to China's government.

Kudlow also said the company executives like what's being done on 5G communications, and want to help the government with getting 5G technology to go nationwide in rural areas.

Also on Tuesday, Kudlow touted a recent poll showing 53 people feel confident about the economy, noting that it is in a "strong prosperity cycle."

Meanwhile, the president and Democrats reached a 2-year deal on Monday that raises the debt ceiling, and as a result, "we got a 2-year extension on the debt limit," as well as no threat to the nation's credit standing," said Kudlow.

He also commented on calls to increase the minimum wage, including one from Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., who told an audience Monday she favors pay of $20 an hour.

"When you have these big increases in the national federal minimum wage, some jobs, some wages go up for some set number of millions of workers, but we also lose millions of jobs because a lot of these businesses can't afford it," said Kudlow.
