President Barack Obama secretly promised he would endorse Hillary Clinton for president in 2016 in exchange for Bill Clinton's public endorsement for Obama's 2012 re-election, according to new revelations to be released in a book.
The details have been added to the paperback version the Edward Klein's blockbuster
"The Amateur," The New York Post reported. The paperback edition of Klein's bestseller about Obama's presidency is released this week.
Klein says the pact was hammered out at a secret meeting held at the Clintons' home in Chappaqua, N.Y. Bill Clinton agreed to give a rousing nomination speech for Obama at the 2012 Democratic National Convention. In exchange, Obama would endorse Hillary as his successor.
Bill kept his word and gave the speech, but once Obama was re-elected, Klein says, he began to have second thoughts, thinking he should stay neutral in the next election. That angered the former president.
Obama ultimately backed down and offered to do an unprecedented "farewell interview" with Hillary on "60 Minutes" as she stepped down as secretary of state.
Klein said in the Post that Bill Clinton previously had openly expressed his disdain for Obama during a private meeting, saying, "I’ve heard more from Bush, asking for my advice, than I’ve heard from Obama. I have no relationship with the president — none whatsoever.
"Obama doesn’t know how to be president,"
Klein quotes Clinton as saying. "He doesn’t know how the world works. He’s incompetent. He’s an amateur!"
