Klein’s ‘Amateur’ NY Times No. 1 for Second Week

By    |   Thursday, 31 May 2012 11:07 AM EDT

Ed Klein’s blockbuster new book about President Obama, “Amateur: Barack Obama in the White House,” will be No. 1 on the New York Times’ list of best-sellers for the second straight week.

But while the public embraces Klein’s explosive expose, so many questions remain, particularly about the mainstream media’s lack of coverage of the book and the alleged bribery attempt of Rev. Jeremiah Wright, according to Byron York, chief political correspondent for The Washington Examiner.

York notes that a 2000 book about then-presidential candidate George W. Bush, “Fortunate Son,” attracted widespread attention because it reported that Bush had been arrested for possessing cocaine at age 26. The book “rocked a presidential campaign — before crashing and burning on its own dishonesty and its author’s criminal record,” York writes.

Klein’s book, on the other hand, “has been mostly ignored by large media organizations (although not by the book-buying public),” York asserts.

“Klein's book reports that in the spring of 2008, in the middle of the presidential campaign and in the heat of the controversy over Rev. Jeremiah Wright's incendiary sermons, a very close friend of Barack Obama's offered Wright a payoff if Wright would remain silent until after the November election.

“The source of the story is Jeremiah Wright himself. Wright told it, in his own words, in a nearly three-hour recorded interview with Klein. (The author gave the audio of the entire interview to me, as well as to other reporters who asked.)

“Unlike the media storm over ‘Fortunate Son,’ the Wright revelation has attracted very little comment in the press. The Associated Press and most of those outlets that talked about Bush and cocaine? They've had little or nothing to say about Jeremiah Wright and alleged payoffs.”

And what about Valerie Jarrett, the most powerful person in the country who nobody knows, or knows anything about? Her official title is senior adviser and assistant to the president for intergovernmental affairs and public engagement, but in fact she is the “eyes, ears, and nose of the president and first lady,” Klein observes.

He reveals how Jarrett has been responsible for much of the incompetence and amateurism in the Obama White House and has been directly involved in some of the worst decisions Obama has made, including:
1) the full-speed approach to ramming Obamacare through Congress; 2) the Solyndra deal debacle; 3) risking Obama’s personal – and the country’s – prestige on the pathetic bid to bring the Olympics to Chicago.

According to Klein, Jarrett’s access to the president and first family, and her power inside the White House, are unprecedented for someone whose qualifications are, at best, highly questionable.
