A Saturday ceremony in which Saudi Arabia King Salman presented President Donald Trump with the kingdom's highest civilian honor had Twitter in a twist over whether or not the president bowed in appreciation.
Many of the posters pointed out a bow would have been hypocritical, since Trump criticized former President Barack Obama for bowing to the Saudi king during his foreign trip in 2009.
"Appears Trump really bowed down. Is this Making America Great Again?" one poster tweeted after video surfaced showing Trump bowing slightly while having the medallion placed around his neck.
"The slightest bow from Trump as he receives a medal. Conservatives were not happy when Obama did the same in 2009," Axios news editor Alexi McCammond tweeted.
"He flipping CURTSIED," wrote Market Watch columnist Brett Arends.
There were others mulling over the did-he-bow-or-curtsy argument as well:
A Fox News headline weighed in with a "none-of-the-above" point of view.
"NO BENDING OVER," the headline stated. "Unlike Obama, Trump shakes Saudi king's hand," AOL News reported.
But one poster pointed out a discrepancy with the Fox declaration.
One poster decided the whole issue was "stupid," AOL News reported.
"The "Obama bowed" stuff was always stupid, and any "Trump bowed" stuff is presumptively also stupid except to extent it highlights hypocrisy," wrote one Twitter user, AOL News reported.
