Kellyanne Conway: Comey 'Doth Protest Too Much' About Probe

(Fox News' "Fox & Friends")

Presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway on Wednesday panned former FBI Director James Comey for his opinion piece for The Washington Post defending the agency's work in investigating President Donald Trump's campaign, saying it sounds like there is "panic" in his world.

"Methinks he doth protest too much," Conway told Fox News' "Fox & Friends." "Who cares what he thinks? We said no collusion for two years . . . but after a "waste of $40 million of taxpayer money, 22 months, 500 witnesses, subpoenas, the list goes on and on . . . I stood here many times that as campaign manager, there was no collusion."

She further slammed Comey as a known "grandstander and showboater," and insisted Trump fired him for other reasons, not the investigation.

"It very much bothered the president that somebody, head of the FBI who acted thusly," Conway said. "He didn't – he fired him for other reasons obviously – he didn't need any reason to fire him. He had plenty."

However, "we're supposed to read Jim Comey in a friendly, favorable news outlet saying no corruption," Conway said of the former director's opinion piece in The Washington Post.

She further attacked Obama administration figures for trying to undo Trump's campaign by putting "their thumb on the scale," as well as media outlets for reporting Comey had briefed Trump on the Fusion GPS dossier.

"We have so many inconsistencies and flat-out lies from these known leakers who have lied under oath to Congress and elsewhere that it is worth investigating," she said. "I would ask them, what are you so afraid of?"
