Kellyanne Conway, the campaign manager for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, is under fire for a three-year-old remark in which critics say she marginalizes rape.

"I'll tell you … if we were physiologically – not mentally, emotionally, professionally – equal to men, if we were physiologically as strong as men, rape would not exist," Conway said on the PBS show "To the Contrary," which aired in January 2013.

"You would be able to defend yourself and fight them off."

The remark was made during a panel discussion of gender equality in combat, according to The Democratic Coalition Against Trump, an anti-Trump super PAC, which unearthed it and said it showed "a disturbing pattern of behavior — a war on women — coming directly from … Conway."

The group's finance director Francesca Lucia, added: "There's a big difference between outrageous comments that get good ratings on reality TV and acceptable political views. Donald Trump and his campaign team continue to show us that they simply don't understand that.

"We cannot have a reality show in the White House; the stakes are just too high, especially for women."

The Democratic Coalition Against Trump also operates Artists Against Trump, whose members include Oscar-winner Danny Glover and "The Daily Show" creator Lizz Winstead.
