Sen. Kelly Ayotte, along with 35 other senators,
has sent a letter to President Barack Obama urging him not to lift sanctions against Iran in light of
two ballistic missile tests conducted since a deal allowing them to continue their nuclear program was reached this past summer.
"[W]e are concerned that your administration is failing to respond to Iran's dangerous and destabilizing actions out of an eagerness to see the Iran deal go forward," wrote Ayotte, a New Hampshire Republican, in a letter dated Wednesday. "This approach toward Tehran undermines further an already weak Iran deal and jeopardizes our national security interests and the safety of Americans and our allies."
Ayotte points out missile tests on October 10 and November 21, which the United Nations says violate U.N. resolutions.
"It does not bode well for this agreement, and we should not be lifting sanctions if they're already violating existing U.N. resolutions," Ayotte said Thursday on Fox News Channel's
"Your World with Neil Cavuto."
"I think it's clear that they are pushing us," she said of Iran. "They are flouting already the U.N., and they're don't even have the cash relief yet."
Iran has yet to sign the deal, and sanctions have yet to be lifted.
"Why do you need a ballistic missile unless you want to launch a nuclear weapon?" Ayotte said. "This is a sign. Stop right now, no lifting of sanctions, no cash relief."
