The police officer who shot and killed a black man in Charlotte, North Carolina, in September "acted lawfully" and will not be charged, the local district attorney said on Wednesday.

Officer Brentley Vinson was acting in self-defense when he shot Keith Scott, 43, three times outside a Charlotte apartment complex on Sept. 20,  District Attorney Andrew Murray told a news conference.

"All of the credible and available evidence suggests that (Scott) was, in fact, armed," the prosecutor said.
