House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., "misused her time and was disrespectful" when she ripped up President Donald Trump's State of the Union speech, according to Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas.
Granger told Charles Payne of Fox News Thursday that she introduced a resolution condemning Pelosi's actions to "say that the SOTU address was a tradition where the president gets to speak to the nation, and there has been a sense of respect for the president regardless of the partisanship, and I saw that shattered yesterday. I think it's a very sad thing."
Granger noted that Trump's speech "honored some people that honored our country over the years."
The congresswoman added later that she "brought a privileged resolution to the House for a vote to say that [Pelosi] misused her time and was disrespectful."
Granger said on Wednesday, before the House voted to table the resolution, that "Speaker Pelosi's actions last night were appalling and shameful. Regardless of her personal feelings, she had a responsibility to conduct herself with civility as the presiding officer representing the House of Representatives. She is not the speaker of the Democrats, but of the people's house."
The Texas Republican ended her interview on Thursday with a call for bipartisan cooperation, saying, "I would hope that we can work together as many of us do work together, but situations like this — it was so public, and the disrespect was so obvious — that set us back some. All of us want to get our work done and report back to our districts what we've done and how we're using this good economy."
