Karl Rove: Hillary Couldn't Even Keep Her Promises to Her Party

Hillary Clinton was asked by both Sen. Richard Lugar and then-Sen. John Kerry to avoid appearances of impropriety with the Clinton Foundation while she was secretary of state, but she couldn't live up to that promise made under oath, Republican strategist Karl Rove said Monday.

"Both expressed concerns about conflicts with the foundation," Rove told Fox News' "Fox and Friends" program. "There has never been a secretary of state who had this kind of outside apparatus, soliciting contributions from foreign nationals and governments and having a giant influence peddling operation that went along with it during their years in the office."

However, she couldn't live up to the promise, or with vetting contributions, said Rove.

"We now know that they set up a phony foundation in Canada in order to hide the names of, I believe it's $125 million, in gifts to the foundation," Rove said. "Why should we trust her going forward if she couldn't live up to the agreements she made with a Democrat president and Democrat-controlled Foreign Relations Committee in 2009?"

On Friday, the Associated Press reported that the State Department won't finish releasing monthly briefing schedules from Clinton's time in office, and Rove said that's because she "borders on paranoid."

"She set up the private email server, and her people are trying to block access to public information," Rove said. "She has been out of office for nearly four years. Those things ought to be available for public inspection, and they are not, because Hillary Clinton is afraid of us finding out more things."

But, he told show host Martha MacCallum that no other secretary of state has been involved in such activities and other presidential candidates have not faced the FBI scrutiny Clinton has.
