Kamala Harris: Immigrant Rule About 'Vilifying People'

By    |   Monday, 12 August 2019 01:31 PM

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris Monday blasted President Donald Trump and his administration's new rule denying residency for immigrants who do not meet certain income guidelines, saying it is another example of the president's agenda "about vilifying people."

"It's just an ongoing campaign of his to vilify a whole group of people, as he does with so many things, and to be ignorant about the history of our country, who we are, how we were founded and what our values are," Harris told CNN during an interview from Iowa. "(Trump) wants everyone to be distracted from the fact that he has betrayed so many people and has actually done very little that has been productive in the best interest of American families."

The president, through his policies, has been "criminalizing people," including "separating children from their parents in the name of border security when it's a human rights abuse being committed by the U.S. government," Harris added.

She noted that in the most recent raids in Mississippi, almost half of those detained had to be released.

Meanwhile, Harris also commented about former White House Communications Director Anthony Scaramucci saying he no longer backs Trump's candidacy, saying that she plans to compete for everyone's vote, even those from disaffected Republicans like him.

"I also know what the American people want, and their president is someone who is focused on the things that keep them up at night, the things that are weighing on them, their immediate issues and concerns," she said. "Donald Trump betrayed a lot of people."
