Democratic candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., said over the weekend that President Donald Trump is “trying to make America hate” with his divisive rhetoric.

Harris, speaking at the NAACP Freedom Fund dinner in Detroit, Michigan, on Sunday, said that America needs “a leader who speaks out against hate,” according to a clip of her speech posted to her Twitter page.

She added, “It’s time we had a president who’s not scared to call neo-Nazi violence what it is: domestic terrorism. It’s time we had a leader who speaks out against hate in all its forms.”

Last week, Trump called Harris “nasty” for her questioning Attorney General William Barr about how he dealt with special counsel Robert Mueller’s report on Russian election interference.

“Trump’s primary interest has been to obstruct justice. My primary interest is to pursue justice,” Harris responded at the time. “You can call that whatever name you want, but I think that's what the American people want in a leader.”

She said on Sunday: “Let’s speak truth here today. This president isn’t trying to make America great; he’s trying to make America hate. So it is critical to our security, our dignity and our unity as a nation when I say: We need a new president.”
