Justin Trudeau and Marvel Comics have collided a new issue of "Civil War II," a comic released Wednesday featuring the Canadian prime minister as an action hero.

The cover of the magazine features Trudeau in the corner of a boxing ring. The image is a variant cover of the magazine, often in demand by collectors, National Public Radio reported. The main cover shows only members of Canadian superhero squad Alpha Flight.

Comic book author Chip Zdarsky of Toronto wrote the story and told NPR that featuring Trudeau "kind of just made sense, like this opportunity to have a Canadian-driven story at a time when Trudeau just keeps making headlines as Canada's cool prime minister."

Trudeau's late father and Canada's former prime minister, Pierre Elliott Trudeau, appeared in Marvel Comics in 1979. Similarly, President Obama appeared in 2009.

But world leaders don't often make good subjects for the comics, NPR noted, quoting Zdarsky as saying that featuring Trudeau's predecessor, Stephen Harper, "would have been a little trickier. His only superpower, as far as I know, is awkwardly playing Beatles medleys on piano."

The story has Trudeau offering advice to Alpha Flight members Aurora, Puck, Sasquatch, and Nick Fury before stepping into the boxing ring with Iron Man, The Toronto Star reported.

The Prime Minister's Office said they couldn't endorse the use of Trudeau's likeness, but they wouldn't stand in the way.

"I wanted to kind of evoke a little bit of what's different about him than other people in power right now. You don't see Obama strutting around in boxing gear, doing push-ups in commercials or whatnot. Just throwing him in his gear and making him almost like an everyday person was kind of fun," artist Ramon Perez said, according to the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation.

Twitter users had mixed reactions to the comic.
