Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ron Johnson, R-Wis., are pressing the Justice Department to investigate any connection between Hillary Clinton's 2016 presidential campaign and Ukrainian operatives, citing "concerns about foreign assistance in the 2016 election that have not been thoroughly addressed."

Grassley and Johnson are also seeking information on any information the DOJ has received from Ukraine tied to Democratic presidential frontrunner Joe Biden.

The move comes as Democrats begin impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump following the release of a phone call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy where Trump asked for help in investigating Biden and his son, Hunter. In the days before the call, Trump ordered advisers freeze nearly $400 million in military aid for Ukraine.

"The Justice Department has yet to inform Congress and the public whether it has begun an investigation into links and coordination between the Ukrainian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Hillary Clinton or the Democratic National Committee. . . . Such allegations of corruption deserve due scrutiny," Johnson and Grassley wrote in the letter to Attorney General William Barr.

"Ukrainian efforts, abetted by a U.S. political party, to interfere in the 2016 election should not be ignored," the two senators wrote in the letter dated Sept. 27. "Are you investigating links and coordination between the Ukrainian government and individuals associated with the campaign of Hillary Clinton or the Democratic National Committee? If not, why not?"
