Joy Reid has apologized for a series of "homophobic" blog posts dating back nearly a decade ago, which criticized former Gov. Charlie Crist of Florida, NBC News reported.

The posts were dug up on Thursday by Twitter user, @Jamie_Maz, who circulated them on social media, drawing widespread criticism against Reid.

According to a series of tweets by @Jamie_Maz, the MSNBC host authored numerous blog posts between 2007 and 2009 described as "homophobic" and that attempted to "out Charlie Crist as gay."

In her posts, Reid refers to Crist as "Miss Charlie" and hints that his marriage to then-wife Carole Rome was a farce, according to The New York Daily News.

Commenting on Crist's wedding, she wrote, "What's most interesting of all, is the way the supposed Fourth Estate, the national and statewide media pretend that they don't all know what they know they know about Crist's sexual orientation. Such hard-hitting reporting burnishes your faith in democracy, doesn't it?"

According to NBC News, Reid was a morning talk radio host and blogger covering the political sphere in Florida when she authored the posts.

The 48-year-old apologized for her blog on Sunday in a lengthy Facebook post.

"This note is my apology to all who are disappointed by the content of blogs I wrote a decade ago, for which my choice of words and tone have legitimately been criticized," she wrote.

"I regret the way I addressed the complex issue of the closet and speculation on a person's sexual orientation with a mocking tone and sarcasm. It was insensitive, tone deaf and dumb. There is no excusing it."

Reid added that, after re-reading those old blog posts, she was disappointed in herself.

She also offered an apology to Crist via Twitter, which he accepted.
