A senior official in the White House Office of Communications has decided to leave his post citing family obligations, according to Axios.

Josh Raffel, a former Hollywood Public Relations executive, joined the administration last year to head communications for the Office of American Innovation. He was quickly spotted by White House advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner and became their internal point man. Unnamed staffers told Axios that Raffel, despite being a Democrat and a supporter of Hillary Clinton, was well-liked and trusted, and was "always handling the worst stories," according to one official.

In 2017, Raffel became deputy communications director and took on a larger role in the White House, including overseeing communications for Israeli-Palestinian negotiations, and working with economic adviser Gary Cohn on tax reform.

"Josh is honest, passionate and thoughtful," Ivanka Trump told Axios. "Whether it was offering strategic guidance on the communications for tax reform or a foreign trip, Josh's guidance was invaluable. The White House won't be the same without him."

"Josh has been a trusted partner as we worked to enact the president's economic agenda and passed historic tax reform," Cohn added. "He is focused and thoughtful in our day-to-day operations and in driving a policy roll-out, and he will be missed."

"Josh was an integral part of our peace team and became a close friend," White House official Jason Greenblatt told Axios. "He guided all of us through the process of communicating serious and complex issues that impact people across the world."

Raffel is expected to leave at some point in the next two months.
