The fiery lawyer that President Donald Trump wanted for his legal team lashed out at Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on Wednesday night, calling him a "coward."

In remarks to Sean Hannity on his Fox News show, Joseph diGenova — who declined the invitation to represent the president in the investigation by FBI special counsel Robert Mueller because of conflicts of interest — railed at Rosenstein's appointment of the special counsel.

The deputy attorney general tapped Mueller on May 17, 2017, days after Trump's firing of FBI Director James Comey.

"His conduct from the beginning of this has been a disgrace legally and every other way," diGenova said, adding: "What we are seeing now is conduct by two public officials, Robert Mueller and Rod Rosenstein, that is unethical, unprofessional, an embarrassment to the United States government, and is undermining equal enforcement of the law."

"Rod Rosenstein single-handedly has taken away from the sitting president of the United States 16 months of his presidency by incompetence," he continued. "You know why Rod Rosenstein appointed Mueller? He didn't want to make the tough decisions you would have to make if you were supervising a case being run by a United States attorney. . . .

"Rod Rosenstein is a coward. He is a disgrace to the Department of Justice."
