Jordan: Schiff Censure Measure Will Show Inquiry Unfair

By    |   Monday, 21 October 2019 01:49 PM

Democrats will likely vote down a censure motion against House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, but it will still demonstrate to Americans how "unfair" the impeachment inquiry process against President Donald Trump has been, Rep. Jim Jordan said Monday.

"Some members of Congress, most members of Congress, are not allowed to be present," the Ohio Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "Matt Gaetz is a member of the Judiciary Committee. He wasn't allowed to attend (an) interview last week. Other members aren't allowed to attend."

In addition, Schiff "selectively leaks" part of the transcripts from the closed-door meetings, but won't let Republicans see them.

"No White House lawyers can be there," said Jordan. "No agency lawyers can be there. The State Department can't have lawyers there. The minority (members) aren't given subpoena authority. We can't get the witnesses we want to call."

But most importantly, said Jordan, is that "it's all being done in the basement of the Capitol, where no one in the country can see, based on an anonymous person that only Adam Schiff and his staff know who this person is, who started this whole thing."

Further, said Jordan, this is not an "average investigation," but is about impeaching Trump 13 months before an election.

"They are afraid he'll win in 2020," Jordan said. "That's what this is about. You certainly can't use the argument Adam Schiff began to use next week, that the reason we're doing it this way there wasn't a special or independent counsel...try taking that argument to the American people and see if they think Adam Schiff is a fair fact-finder here."
