Sen. Johnny Isakson, R-Ga., was recovering in a Washington, D.C. hospital Thursday morning after breaking three ribs in a fall at his apartment.

Isakson's office posted an update to the lawmaker's condition, saying he fell Tuesday evening.

"Senator Isakson was admitted to George Washington University Hospital in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday night after falling in his apartment and suffering fractured ribs," the release states. "He is in pain, but resting and doing well. Senator Isakson looks forward to fully recovering and getting back to work for Georgians."

As Politico noted, the 74-year-old Isakson received a Parkinson's disease diagnosis in 2013, which he kept private until two years later. He sometimes uses a cane or a wheelchair to help him get around the U.S. Capitol complex.

Isakson served in the Georgia State Senate from 1993-1997 before getting elected to the U.S. House in a 1999 special election to replace former Rep. Newt Gingrich. He served in the chamber until 2005, at which point he began his service in the Senate.
