The House Judiciary Committee, citing alleged misconduct, will hold impeachment hearings later this month for IRS Commissioner John Koskinen,
The Hill reports.
Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte said Koskinen and others undermined Congress' investigation into the IRS' targeting of political groups.
"Over the coming weeks, the House Judiciary Committee will closely examine Commissioner Koskinen’s misconduct and the implications of his actions," Goodlatte said, The Hill reported.
The Judiciary Committee will stage a hearing on May 24, when the findings of the House Oversight Committee's probe into Koskinen will be heard. Koskinen will also be invited to testify regarding charges of failing to comply with a subpoena, false statements under oath, and failure to notify Congress that emails from former IRS official Lois Lerner were missing, The Hill reported.
The Judiciary Committee will then convene a hearing in June to decide what, if any, action should be taken.
"It’s time for him to go. A hearing is the right first step, but ultimately Congress should hold a vote on impeachment,” Freedom Caucus Chairman Rep. Jim Jordan said in a statement, The Hill reported.
