Republican John Kasich, who ran for president in 2016 and has not counted out another bid in 2020, is reportedly looking to join either CNN or MSNBC.
According to CNBC, which cited unnamed sources, Kasich — finishing out his two-term tenure as Ohio's governor — has signaled to close advisers and some donors he is looking to sign with one of the two major cable networks. The announcement could come Tuesday.
He has ruled out joining Fox News Channel, where he hosted his own show for several years in the 2000s, CNBC reported. There was no word on what role he would play in a new cable network gig.
Chris Schrimpf, a spokesman for Kasich, one of the most vocal GOP critics of President Donald Trump, did not deny the report, and told the news outlet it will not impact any decision Kasich makes on a White House run.
"In the past, people who run give up their network gig," Charlie Black, a former adviser to Kasich's 2016 presidential campaign, told CNBC, noting both Mike Huckabee and Newt Gingrich did so.
