John Fund to Newsmax TV: AOC Calls 'Astonishingly Tone Deaf'

(Newsmax TV's "Saturday Report")

By    |   Saturday, 25 April 2020 05:43 PM EDT

The calls by Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., to not only celebrate failures of the oil and gas industry but for Americans to refuse to get back to work are "astonishingly tone deaf," according to John Fund on Newsmax TV.

"I think we can call her disconnected from reality, and be safe on that score," Fund, National Review Online editor, told "Saturday Report." "Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was an economics major, but apparently she played hooky the entire time, or was taught solely by Marxists. This is astonishingly tone deaf.

"You cannot use the middle of a crisis like this to reorder the entire economy according to your left-wing models. The country is interested in getting back to work, not to become guinea pigs in some experiment regarding untested green technology, which millions of people remain out of work."

Economist Stephen Moore, also appearing with Fund, added to host Grant Stinchfield, the opportunism and keeping workers from earning an income is "idiocy."

"The problem is the left really does see this as transformation," Moore told Stinchfied. "You're seeing more and more politicians saying this – that this is an opportunity for a kind of left-wing status takeover of our economy. And I think AOC is only reflecting what so many on the left believe that they just won't say. AOC is kind of an asset to us, because she actually says what the left believes."

Ocasio-Cortez is calling for expensive Green New Deal initiatives when oil and gas prices are heading for all-time lows, and Moore asked "why would we put a penny into any other source of energy right now?"

"What we're going right now with our economic shutdown is ravaging our economy," Moore said. "The oil and gas industry isn't the only one being destroyed. We're seeing businesses fail by the tens of thousands every day, and I'm sick of liberals trying to take this moral high ground that somehow by shutting down our economy they're helping people."

In fact, Ocasio-Cortez has advocated for Americans to protest going back to work after the global coronavirus pandemic abates, which is economic and political malpractice, particularly when you consider a stream of national-debt exploding bailouts, according to Moore.

"We're paying people not to work right now," he lamented. "This bill is going to make it much, much harder for a recovery to happen because we're giving people over 100% of their paychecks through July. Now, Nancy Pelosi wants to do that through September. It's ridiculous.

"You cannot revive the economy by sending checks to people," he added. "That's the first rule of economics."

"Employers are going to have a hard time getting workers back to work because of this crazy thing," Moore concluded. "And AOC, she doesn't even want people to go back to work. She wants to destroy our economy."
