President Joe Biden's repeated claims that he never has discussed son Hunter Biden's business with him have come into question after an email surfaced Tuesday, the Daily Mail reported.
The 2019 email said that the then-former vice president had agreed to cover nearly $800,000 in bills compiled ahead of the 2020 presidential election, the Daily Mail reported. Those bills included legal fees tied to Hunter's controversial overseas business dealings.
A spreadsheet detailing the debts was attached to the email.
The Jan. 17, 2019, email — which began with "Hello VP team" — was written by Hunter Biden's then-personal assistant, Katie Dodge, and sent to accountant Linda Shapero, founder of the Global DEEZ firm in Leesburg, Virginia.
The email was cc'ed to Hunter Biden and Richard Ruffner, then a personal aide to Joe Biden.
"I spoke with Hunter today regarding his bills," Dodge wrote in the email, the Daily Mail reported. "It is my understanding that Hunt's dad will cover these bills in the short-term as Hunter transitions in his career."
The spreadsheet included a debt of more than $130,000 in legal fees due "ASAP" to the law firm of Faegre Baker Daniels, with $28,382 owed for "BHR Restructuring."
That appeared to be a reference to the Chinese company Bohai Harvest RST (Shanghai) Equity Investment Fund Management, in which Hunter Biden held a 10 % stake through a company called Skaneateles LLC.
In 2019, Joe Biden said that "no one in my family will have an office in the White House, will sit in on meetings as if they are a cabinet member, will, in fact, have any business relationship with anyone that relates to a foreign corporation or a foreign country."
Earlier this month, the New York Post reported that a witness in the Hunter Biden grand jury proceedings was asked about Biden's deal with a Chinese energy conglomerate, along with the identity of "the big guy" during sworn testimony in Wilmington, Delaware.
The identity of "the big guy" has yet to be publicly verified, the Post said. However, back in October, 2020, Tony Bobulinski, a U.S. Navy veteran and former Hunter Biden business partner, maintained that Joe Biden was "the big guy."
The Post also reported that text messages on Hunter Biden's old laptop revealed his grousing about sending as much as 50% of his earnings to his father over the years, including telling his daughter that he had to "pay for everything" for three decades.
