A sequel to "The Passion of the Christ" is in the works by director Mel Gibson, and it will be "the biggest film in history," according to the actor who will reprise his role of Jesus.

"There are things that I cannot say that will shock the audience; it's great — stay tuned," actor Jim Caviezel, 49, told USA Today.

"I won't tell you how he's going to go about it, but I'll tell you this much, the film he's going to do is going to be the biggest film in history. It's that good."

Gibson's 2004 original earned $611 million on a $30 million budget, ranking as the "highest-grossing R-rated film ever in North America with $370.8 million," according to USA Today.

The first story featured the last 12 hours of Christ's life and, in 2016, Gibson teased the sequel will depict the resurrection to USA Today.

"The Resurrection — big subject — oh, my God," Gibson told the paper. "We're trying to craft this in a way that's cinematically compelling and enlightening so that it shines new light, if possible, without creating some weird thing."

The depth of the project takes time and the shooting schedule has tentatively being laid out but not publicly disclosed, Caviezel told USA Today.

"'Braveheart,' that's a film that took a long time to be able to crack," Caviezel reportedly added. "The same thing for Passion. And the same thing for this. He's finally got it, so that is coming."
