White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki on Thursday emphasized that President Joe Biden remains committed on getting Neera Tanden confirmed as his budget director.

Tanden’s nomination to head the White House Office of Management and Budget is looking unlikely after West Virginia Democrat Sen. Joe Manchin said recently that he opposes her due to her negative comments about his colleagues.

“We are fighting our hearts out for Neera Tanden,” Psaki said while on “The View” on Thursday.

“I know her personally and she is somebody who not only is incredibly experienced, she’s got decades of experience,” she added. “But she has — she grew up as someone who is benefiting from a lot of the programs that she would oversee overseeing the budget department. And that’s important that’s having kind of a different perspective and a different point of view at the table.”

Psaki said, “We’re still fighting for Neera Tanden and so stay tuned. We’re still working on it.”

Without Manchin, Democrats will need at least one Republican to support Tanden, but even moderate members of the GOP like Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Mitt Romney of Utah have come out against her nomination.
