Quoting former President Dwight D. Eisenhower, former FBI director James Comey tweeted on Friday about "leadership" and "unquestionable integrity," perhaps referring to recent allegations of sexual harassment by lawmakers, The Hill reported Friday.
Comey tweeted:
Both Democratic and Republican lawmakers have made recent headlines as the focus on sexual harassment has enveloped members of Congress. Sen. Al Franken, D-Minn., and Senate hopeful Roy Moore, R-Ala., currently are under scrutiny for charges they engaged in inappropriate sexual conduct.
Franken apologized Thursday for his actions after a photograph was released by journalist Leann Tweeden showing him touching her inappropriately while she slept in a cargo plane as the two were on a USO tour in 2006.
And Moore, a former Alabama state justice, defended himself against charges he engaged in sexual misconduct with teenagers four decades ago. Moore is running in a special election in Alabama for the seat left vacant by Jeff Sessions when he became attorney general.
Comey has refrained from commenting directly about political incidents after being fired by President Donald Trump. Some of his previous tweets have been thought to contain indirect shots, however, towards political figures embroiled in current events.
Trump abruptly fired Comey last May, stating it was necessary to restore "public trust and confidence" in the FBI. He had come under scrutiny for the agency's handling of the investigation of 2016 Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton's email practices while secretary of State.
