Iran confirmed that former secretary of state John Kerry met with Iranian foreign minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to discuss preserving the nuclear accord between Iran and the U.S. and other world powers, The Times of Israel reported.
Iran's semiofficial Fars news agency said that Zarif had not discussed the issue with current administration officials.
"We don’t see the U.S. just as Mr. Trump; the United States is not just the current ruling administration and there are many figures who have different views on international and regional issues," Foreign Ministry spokesman Bahram Qassemi told Fars.
The Boston Globe reported Friday that Kerry and a top Iranian official had met at the United Nations about the nuclear deal.
President Donald Trump slammed Kerry on Tuesday, saying the former secretary of state is “hurting” the U.S. by meeting with the Iranian official.
