A pair of staffers from the House Intelligence Committee traveled to London earlier this summer to track down — but not talk to — Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous dossier on President Donald Trump, Politico reported.

News of the trip highlights the importance congressional probes of possible collusion between the Trump campaign and Moscow have placed on determining the veracity of the report and the identity of its funder, according to the website.

But it also highlights the discord between the House and Senate intelligence committees, whose investigations are running in parallel, but in a vacuum, leading to a tug-of-war over which chamber has priority with witnesses like Steele, Politico reports.

House Intel Republicans told neither the Senate committee nor Democrats on their panel that they were going to London to pursue Steele, according to Politico.

Further, the House panel couldn't care less about special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation, Politico reported.

"We're not putting the brakes on our investigation just because Mueller wants something,” one House official told Politico.

The House investigators were instructed not to engage with Steele, but only to leave contact information for him, Politico reported. An attorney for Steele, a former agent in Britain's MI6 intelligence bureau, subsequently corresponded with the House panel, Politico reported.
