House Speaker Paul Ryan reacted to the indictment of several Russians as part of the ongoing Russia probe as saying it's important to let the facts tell the story.

"We have known that Russians meddled in the election, but these indictments detail the extent of the subterfuge," Ryan said. "These Russians engaged in a sinister and systematic attack on our political system. It was a conspiracy to subvert the process and take aim at democracy itself."

Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein announced Friday afternoon that 13 Russians and three Russian companies have been indicted on charges that they meddled in the 2016 U.S. presidential election. The indictments came as part of the ongoing Russia investigation spearheaded by special counsel Robert Mueller.

"Today's announcement underscores why we need to follow the facts and work to protect the integrity of future elections," Ryan said.

President Donald Trump, whose campaign is being investigated for possible Russia collusion, said the indictments show the campaign was not involved with the Russians.

"The Trump campaign did nothing wrong — no collusion!" he tweeted.
