The final season of "House of Cards" will resume production in early 2018 without star Kevin Spacey and will instead focus on Robin Wright's character.

Netflix Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos made the announcement Monday about the series, which had halted production in October after sexual assault allegations were made against lead actor Spacey.

Sarandos spoke about "House of Cards" at USB’s Global Media and Communications Conference in New York.

“We were really excited we could get to an agreement” and wanted to provide “closure to fans,” he said, Variety reported

The hit series, which focuses on political dealmaking in Washington, D.C., has provided 2,000 jobs to people in the Baltimore area where it is shot, Variety reported. It was the first major original Netflix show.

The eight-episode final season "House of Cards" will focus around Wright, who plays the wife of Spacey’s character. No plot details have yet been released.

Spacey reportedly will not appear in any of the episodes, even though the final season was two weeks into shooting.

Netflix may be looking to produce a spin-off of the popular show, The Guardian reported

Spacey also has been fired from a film about Gore Vidal in which he was to play the title character, and he was replaced by Christopher Plummer in the soon-to-release “All the Money in the World,” forcing last-minute reshoots before the film’s debut Dec. 22.

Netflix plans to spend up to $8 billion on original content in 2018, according to Variety. It hopes some of its movies, such as “Bright,” starring Will Smith, may be shown in movie theaters so that people who want to “go out on Friday night” can enjoy them.
