President Donald Trump will award the Presidential Medal of Freedom to legendary former football coach Lou Holtz on Thursday.
The announcement was made by the White House on Wednesday and detailed in a report by Politico. The medal is the highest civilian award.
Holtz, who spent 34 years in coaching both college and professional footballs teams, is perhaps best known for the 11 seasons he spent as Notre Dame’s head coach.
He was among the guest speakers who addressed the Republican National Convention this year.
Holtz, who is 83, tested positive for COVID-19 in November, Politico noted.
