The former chairman of the powerful House Intelligence Committee charges in an exclusive LIGNET interview that the person or persons who jeopardized U.S. national security by leaking highly classified material — ostensibly from the White House — are either “amateurs” or “traitors” to their country.
“We have jeopardized our own national security because some individuals are out there and you don’t know what the motivation of these individuals are,” said Hoekstra, who is running for the U.S. Senate in Michigan. “They’re either amateurs who don’t know what the consequences of their actions may be, or they’re traitors to this country because of the damage that they have done.”

Hoekstra became chairman of the House Intelligence Committee during his nine terms in the House of Representatives.
“These leaks — this pattern of leaks — they’ve been very, very damaging. Whether it’s talking about the leak about new bomb technology that was being developed in Yemen, whether it was about intimate details about the raid to kill bin Laden or whether it’s about the computer virus that may have been used against Iran,” observed Hoekstra, who is on the advisory board of LIGNET, a global intelligence and forecasting service based in Washington, DC.
“Each and every one of these gives our enemies a clear and direct insight into what our capabilities are — what our techniques are to penetrate them — to get information from them, and to perhaps disrupt their activities.”
Hoekstra, who is currently heavily favored to win the Republican nomination for Senator in the Michigan race, joins other experts to break down the damage these leaks have done to America’s security and what it means to the country moving forward.
