Hillary's Record as Secretary of State Criticized in RNC Video

Hillary Clinton is pilloried in a new Republican National Committee web ad that cites the killings in Benghazi, the kidnappings in Nigeria, and the chaos in Ukraine as part of her record as secretary of state, according to The Washington Free Beacon.

The video also is critical of Clinton's four years of negotiations that failed to get Iran to give up its nuclear program and crystallizes what will be the Republican Party's major attack points if she runs for president in 2016.

Seizing on the title of her upcoming new book, "Hard Choices," it opens with a red pen that crosses out the word "hard," and replaces it with the word "bad."

The 90-second spot largely relies on sound bites and video clips taken from U.S. news channels, using a combination of questions from journalists and comments from guests on talk shows.

The set-up for the ad comes from New York Times political correspondent Nicholas Confessore's recent appearance on MSNBC's "Jansing & Co." in which he said Clinton's biggest stumbling block to the White House is her lack of concrete accomplishments.

Story continues below the video.

"I actually think, though, that the real thing they have to overcome, this question that everyone’s asking was 'What was her biggest accomplishment as secretary of state?'" he said. "And you know, I just see flailing on this question. From her own supporters I don’t see any good answers, or at least a solid, strong answer."

The ad sweeps over lined yellow paper from issue to issue that the RNC considers "Bad Choices."

As lawmakers investigate the Libyan terror attack in Benghazi that left the U.S. ambassador and three others dead, the ad seizes on Clinton's "What difference does it make?" comments to Congress.

A series of audio and video clips follow as comments are scrawled in the margin, including, "Hillary's record is nothing to run on … that's why she's running from it."

The yellow pages are turned, and a CNN reporter is seen describing the Islamist kidnapping of more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria.

"Was Secretary Clinton slow at the switch in designating Boko Haram as a terror group?" a CNN newsman asks.

The page turns. Subject: Russia Reset. The video reminds viewers that five years ago Clinton said the Obama administration was presenting Moscow with a "reset" button in its relationship with America. Since then, Russia has annexed Crimea from Ukraine and has massed tens of thousands of troops at its border with Ukraine.

The page turns. Viewers are reminded Clinton's State Department team tried to hold off tougher sanctions on Iran. Then it shows a clip of her praising the sanctions.

"These 'hard choices' resulted in wrong decisions" is scrawled across the yellow lines on the final page, and another voice-over from NBC's Chuck Todd is played.

"Frankly, many of the issues from her time at the department have either stayed bad or gotten worse, from Russia and Libya to the failure of Middle East peace and the troubled aftermath of the Arab Spring," Todd says.
