Hillary Clinton leveled a blistering attack on Donald Trump's foreign policy stances – particularly his defense of Russia's President Vladimir Putin – saying the GOP nominee's promises "will make us less safe," and that his campaign was becoming "more and more of a reality television show."

Speaking after a meeting with national security experts on Friday, Clinton said "experts on both sides of the aisle are chilled by what they're hearing from the Republican nominee."

"I don't want to rehash everything my opponent has said in this campaign, but no conversation about our national security would be complete unless we acknowledge that the nominee on the other side promises to do things that will make us less safe," she said.

"That may be the number one reason why this election is the most important in our lifetimes," she added.

But her sharpest blast came as she ended her summary about the national security meeting – and was about to walk away from the podium – when she was asked her thoughts about Trump's interview Thursday with Larry King on the RT network a Russian television station sponsored by the Kremlin.

"You know every day that goes by, this just becomes more and more of a reality television show," she replied.

"It's not a serious presidential campaign. It is beyond one's imagination to have a candidate for president praising a Russian autocrat like Vladimir Putin, and throwing his lot in with him, and the way he approved of his wish list, and not really even understanding what Putin has already done – like invading an occupied Crimea."

"We're living in challenging times and that was reinforced by the excellent discussion we had today," she added. "No one that wants to assume the role of president and commander in chief should be making the kind of reckless and dangerous statements and identifying with a regime that has some aggressive tendencies toward our interests, our friends an allies."

"Can I say I was surprised? I'm not sure anything surprises us any more, but I was certainly disappointed that someone running for president of the United States would continue this unseemly identification with and praise of the Russian president, including on Russian television. "

Earlier, Clinton detailed her foreign policy plans as president, including the fight against ISIS and reigning in the nuclear threat from North Korea.

"We have to hit them from the air, and intensify support for local Arab and Kurdish partners on the ground," she said about defeating ISIS, adding that she supports "more special forces, enablers, and trainers as needed, intelligence gathering and reconnaissance."

And regarding the nuclear threat from North Korea, Clinton said it was "vital we bring the world together to stop North Korea's dangerous game."
