New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan, who has endorsed Hillary Clinton for president, dodged multiple chances to state that the Democratic nominee is honest and trustworthy in an interview with CNN.

When CNN's Manu Raju first asked if Hassan thought that Clinton was honest and trustworthy, the governor replied "I support Hillary Clinton for the presidency because her experience and her record demonstrate that she is qualified to hold the job."

When asked again if she believed Clinton is honest, Hassan touted Clinton's agenda, praising her "critical plan among others for making college more affordable."

When pressed yet another time to answer the question, the governor once more refused, saying instead that Clinton "has demonstrated a commitment always to something beyond herself, bigger than herself."

The Hassan campaign later said the governor does indeed believe that Clinton is honest.
Nationwide polls have consistently shown that almost two-thirds of the public believe Clinton is not honest and trustworthy.

Hassan is battling incumbent Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte for a Senate seat. Fox News reports that the polls show a virtual dead heat for the crucial seat, with Democrats needing a swing of just four more seats to capture a majority in the Senate if Clinton wins the presidency.

Both candidates are considered very popular in the state and politically savvy. Although Democrats outnumber Republicans in New Hampshire, Ayotte has shown bipartisanship in her first term in the Senate, especially on such issues as gun control and veterans benefits.
Part of the battle in this senatorial campaign is also considered to be both candidate's relationship and attitude towards their respective party's presidential nominees.
