Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is losing the confidence of some of her fellow Democratic leaders for how she has handled the email scandal that has unfolded after it was revealed she used her own server for email during her tenure at the State Department.

According to The New York Times, Democrats are growing increasingly frustrated over the situation as they hope to keep the White House in 2016. Specifically, they cite jokes and dismissive comments Clinton has made about the situation, saying that she doesn't seem to be taking the problem very seriously.

The Times says that it interviewed more than 75 governors, lawmakers, candidates and Democratic party members and says that there is a "widespread bewilderment" over the fact that the scandal has been allowed to linger over her candidacy as long as it has.

They reportedly question the decision to use the private email server to begin with, knowing that it would lead to questions about a lack in judgement, and then the fact that she has not effectively been able to explain that decision.

Several polls have highlighted the fact that voters question Clinton's honesty and trustworthiness, and one poll from Fox News found that 58 percent of voters think Clinton "knowingly lied" about not knowing there was classified information on the server.

According to The Washington Post, the donor class, especially those who supported President Barack Obama, is also underwhelmed with Clinton in light of the email scandal, and they are anxiously awaiting to hear whether Vice President Joe Biden will run so they can support his candidacy.

Clinton did say Wednesday that she does take "responsibility"
for deciding to use a private server and email account while she served at the State Department, adding that "it clearly wasn't the best choice."
