Just two weeks before Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton's appearance in a public hearing of the Benghazi panel, a new ad was released where she is seeking to capitalize off of Republicans' comments linking her political performance with the House committee investigating the 2012 violence in Benghazi, Libya,
The Hill reports.
The 30-second ad, which will run nationally on cable television, features No. 2 House Republican Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) saying the Special Committee on Benghazi was "created to destroy Clinton's candidacy."
"The Republicans finally admit it," the narrator said in the ad. "Republicans have spent millions to attack Hillary because she's fighting for everything they oppose."
The ad also came after Clinton criticized the Republicans investigation of the violence in Benghazi in a televised town hall.
"Look at the situation they chose to exploit, to go after me for political reasons, the death of four Americans in Benghazi," she said.
After McCarthy's comments, not only did top Republicans have to rush to his defense, but it raised questions on whether McCarthy is adequate to take on the role of Speaker of the House.
However, Emily Schillinger, a spokeswoman for Speaker John Boehner said in a statement following the release of the new ad that "this is a classic Clinton attempt to distract from her record of putting classified information at risk and jeopardizing our national security, all of which the FBI is investigating."
