Some $650,000 in taxpayer-funded government grants this year have gone to a health center connected to Illinois Rep. Bobby Rush, The Washington Free Beacon reported on Monday.
The Beloved Community Family Wellness Center, which is a not-for-profit federally qualified health center, also has received more than $15 million in grants since 2008, according to the records.
The congressman's daughter, Kacy Rush, is listed as a "director" of the health center on its website.
Rush requested a $100,000 earmark for the center that was approved in 2008, and the non-profit was then awarded 305,000, which was tacked onto an appropriations bill, the Free Beacon reported.
In addition that year, the Department of Justice gave the Beloved Community Family Wellness Center a $290,663 grant for what was marked as "developing, testing, and demonstrating promising new programs" for "juvenile justice programs."
In 2010, the IRS revoked another one of Rush's nonprofits, the Rebirth of Englewood Community Development Corp., after it failed to file disclosures for three consecutive years.
Rush, a Democrat, has been in Congress since 1993. He founded the non-denominational Beloved Community Christian Church in Chicago in 2002, according to the HuffPost.
The congressman began making donations from his campaign to the church soon after it opened and some $200,000 has be funneled to it since.
Rush's office did not return a request for comment, the Free Beacon reported.
