Only a few days after the Office of Special Counsel said that White House counselor Kellyanne Conway should be fired for violating the Hatch Act, House Democrats Ted Lieu and Don Breyer have requested senior White House adviser Jared Kushner be investigated as well, TPM reported.

“Under the Hatch Act, federal employees are prohibited from fundraising for political candidates,” the congressmen wrote to OSC, a federal watchdog agency. “Alarmingly, recent media reports indicate that Mr. Kushner is nonetheless taking a direct role in raising funds for the re-election campaign of President Donald Trump.”

Trump said he would not abide by OSC’s recommendation to fire Conway even after OSC head Henry Kerner said last week that Conway’s “actions erode the principal foundation of our democratic system - the rule of law,” according to The Hill.

Kerner said this was so because as a highly visible member of the administration, Conway's “violations, if left unpunished, would send a message to all federal employees that they need not abide by the Hatch Act’s restrictions.”

Beyer and Lieu, in their letter, stressed that “The larger context of Trump administration officials failing to comply, being previously reprimanded by OSC, and, in some cases, openly flouting Hatch Act requirements also argues against giving senior administration officials benefit of the doubt when considering potential violations.”
