Sen. Harry Reid blasted the NRA and warned his Republican peers that the NRA "doesn't care about you," which was a stark reversal from 2010 when the Nevada Democrat accepted contributions from the gun rights lobby and sought its endorsement, the Washington Times reported.

Reid waxed angry earlier this week when gun legislation that would have banned Americans on the FBI watch list from buying guns was thwarted on the Senate floor.

"Here is a little secret for my Republican colleagues: The NRA doesn't care about you. It doesn't care about your constituents," The Times quoted Reid. "The NRA and its leadership care about two things: making money for gun manufacturers and making money for the NRA."

What's not a secret is that back in 2010, according to the Times, Reid:
  • Accepted nearly $5,000 in campaign contributions from the NRA.
  • Sought the lobby's endorsement.
  • Appeared at a gun range with the group's Executive VP Wayne La Pierre.
The 2010 contributions are among $10,000 Reid has received from the NRA during his time in Congress, according to the Times.

Reid claimed in his speech that the NRA has changed over the years. However, the Times reports that it appears Reid is a serial flip-flopper who changed his tune to get re-elected.

"Sen. Reid lies and exploits victims of horrific terrorist attacks because he can't win the argument based on facts," NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker told the Times. "Harry Reid exemplifies what the American people hate about politicians, and Nevadans will be better served when they have a senator who will work to keep them safe from terrorism and who respects the Constitution they swore to uphold."
