Gallup Poll: Over Half of Americans Disapprove of Obamacare

Over half of the American population showed disapproval of President Barack Obama's pet project Affordable Care Act (ACA), also known as Obamacare, a poll carried out by Gallup revealed on Thursday.

Only 44 percent of the U.S. public support the law, the survey showed.

The results of Americans' approval of ACA:

• Approve: 44 percent
• Disapprove: 51 percent

According to the research organization, the announcement by Aetna, the third largest U.S. health insurance company, "to sharply limit its participation in Obamacare" is seen as one of the possible reasons for the disapproval.

After Aetna, two other major companies — United Health Care and Blue Cross — had decided to stop participating in many government-regulated insurance exchanges.

The survey revealed results similar to what Gallup measured last November. Around 1,015 adults participated in the survey conducted on August 30-31.

When Gallup asked respondents whether Obamacare hurt them or their family:

• Hurt: 29 percent
• Helpful: 18 percent
• Law had no effect: 51 percent

The poll also found that while only 24 percent of Americans are positive and expect things to get better, 36 percent believe Obamacare will only make their family's healthcare situation worse in the long run. The remaining 37 percent said the law won't make much difference to them.
