Kellyanne Conway: White House Standing With Venezuelans

By    |   Tuesday, 30 April 2019 12:23 PM

The White House stands with the people of Venezuela and agrees that it's "time for [President Nicolas] Maduro to go," presidential counselor Kellyanne Conway said Tuesday, after opposition leader Juan Guiado and detained activist Leopoldo took to the streets, in an uprising against the government.

"We certainly support a peaceful transition," Conway told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "We want to review for you in quick order what Maduro has done to his people, starving them...we support the people of Venezuela and that is why we in the United States have tried to deliver so many supplies just to meet basic needs."

She pointed out that 3 million Venezuelans have fled to Colombia and Brazil, and the average person has lost more than 20 pounds in the past year.

"It is a disgrace against humanity," said Conway. "We'll stand with the people until they are free. And they are free from the grips of this mad man in power, Maduro."

She said she has not heard about Maduro's location, but the White House is still watching as the events unfold, hoping that democracy and freedom are the end result of the uprising.

"You've seen the Maduros around the world who cling to their power no matter how they treat their own people," said Conway. "It is time for him to go. The vice president has made this clear over the last year."
