What happened in Vegas isn’t going to stay in Vegas, the head of the House transportation Committee says.
Rep. John Mica, R-Fla., is vowing to hold congressional hearings into a federal agency that blew $822,000 in taxpayer money on a training conference near Las Vegas.
An inspector general’s report revealed that the General Services Administration spent $100 per person on a reception and $6,325 for commemorative coins to honor employees’ work on the stimulus package.
"The Las Vegas fiasco is just the tip of the iceberg," Mica, who is chairman of the House on Transportation and Infrastructure, said Tuesday. "This is a horrible example of wasteful conduct by public officials and federal officials."
The report’s findings led to the head of the GSA, Martha Johnson, to fire two deputies before resigning herself.
