Greta Van Susteren is open to new media gigs after leaving Fox News, where she spent the last 14 years as a prime-time TV anchor, in an election she says can't get "weirder."

According to Politico’s Playbook, Van Susteren “abruptly left the cable network last week after efforts to renegotiate her contract,” though she elected not to comment on her departure in an interview that covered other topics, including the election.

“In 2000, when I was standing down in Florida at the recount watching through the glass window people looking at hanging chads, I thought it could never get weirder than this,” she said. “Well, I think we just matched it. I have no prediction on this.”

Asked her thoughts on how the media has covered the election, she answered with a positive grade.

“Here’s how I grade it…I think a lot of it has been silly and wild and circus-like, but when you sort of look through all that stuff – let me go back to the fundamental question, which is: Are the voters getting information? And if the answer is yes, then in spite of everything else we are doing our job.”

Van Susteran told Politico she wants to return to TV, but for now is excited to connect with her social media family. Her recent Twitter activity gives the impression that she’s enjoying it:

Van Sustren is on record saying that Fox had not "felt like home” to her for a few years, said The Associated Press noted.

Fox Co-presidents Jack Abernethy and Bill Shine released a statement saying “we are grateful for Greta’s many contributions over the years and wish her continued success.”

Van Susteren is being temporarily replaced in her usual 7 p.m. time slot by Fox veteran Brit Hume, at least until the election is over, said the AP.
