Former Vice President Joe Biden responded to criticism of his past action on climate change by telling his critics to check his record, The Hill reports.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., both knocked Biden in past weeks over his forthcoming climate plan, which Reuters described as a “middle ground” policy.
"This is a dealbreaker. There is no 'middle ground' w/ climate denial & delay," Ocasio-Cortez said in a tweet last week.
Sanders tweeted: "There is no 'middle ground' when it comes to climate policy. If we don't commit to fully transforming our energy system away from fossil fuels, we will doom future generations. Fighting climate change must be our priority, whether fossil fuel billionaires like it or not."
“You never heard me say middle of the road. I’ve never been middle of the road on the environment,” Biden said to reporters in New Hampshire on Tuesday. "Tell her to check the statement that I made and look at my record."
Biden added, "I don't think she was talking about me.”
A spokesperson for Biden declined to comment on the former vice president’s climate policy, but said that “Biden has called climate change an ‘existential threat,’ and as Vice President was instrumental in orchestrating the Paris Climate Accord.”
